Question / Issue
What is BCEGS and where would I look this number up?

Answer / Solution

BCEGS (Building Code Effectiveness Grading Schedule):

The BCEGS assesses the effectiveness of enforcement and adequacy of building codes in a particular community, with special emphasis on mitigation of losses from natural hazards. A BCEGS grade of 1 (best) to 10 is assigned to each participating municipality. Municipalities with building codes that are well enforced should demonstrate better loss experience and a better grade.. Premium credits, if applicable, may be derived from these designated BCEGS grades.

  1. Click on the blue circle with a white question mark icon next to the territory entry field
  2. This will take you to the Citizens wind eligibility and Property search tool
  3. Enter your Citizens EPas login
  4. The next screen will ask you to enter the property address and the year of construction
  5. Click on Next to display many items associated with the property including the BCES and PC codes

A grade of “98” will be assigned to communities that have elected not to participate in the BCEGS program and will receive a premium surcharge.

A grade of “99” will be assigned to properties in communities that have not been graded.
